As we all know, the government has severely curtailed non-essential travel in view of the continuing need to suppress the spread of COVID-19.  Origin Vets can now offer telemdicine consultations either by telephone or video-link by appointment for our clients. They are up to 15 minutes and if you wish to have one please contact us on 0333 800 9828.

These appointments are not available by online booking.

When you ring us, your details will be taken by our answering service. They will need to confirm your name, address, mobile number and email address. Please let us know whether you want a telephone consultation or if a video-link, whether you want to use Skype or Zoom. Video-link consultations are our preference as they allow us to see the animal (a picture paints a thousand words…). We will need your username if using Skype and we will call you at the agreed appointment time. Let us know which vet or vet nurse you would like an appointment with and we’ll try to arrange it but we cannot always guarantee that the vet of your choice is available.

The consultation will be up to 15 minutes long. Please respect that we may have other calls waiting so we will be strict on this.

At the end of the consultation you will be emailed a report on the consultation which will include details of where to collect any precriptions if necessary, plus details on how you can pay, either by Paypal or via bank transfer. You will be sent the details.

Prices are : Consultation (video-link and telephone) with one of our vets £40.00

Consultation (video-link and telephone) with our veterinary nurse £30.00

Our staff will not be available on video services outside of the agreed consultation time and any such calls will not be answered. If you need to speak to one of our vets or nurse please ring 0333 800 9828.

We appreciate your patience as we bed in this new appointment system.

Please note that we have a zero-tolerance approach to unnecessary bad language, verbal abuse and other unacceptable behaviours and we reserve the right to end the call in such situations.

Statement by the RCVS on Telemedicine

Origin Vets is working within the guidelines issued by our governing body, The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. The RCVS issued a statement on the 24th March 2020. This stated that under normal circumstances, prescribing via telemedicine is not permitted. Telemedicine includes the provsion of veterinary services by video-link and telephone. However, in light of recent government guidance to limit non-essential contact with others, RCVS Council has decided that there should be a temporary departure from this position and that remote prescribing of POM-V medicines should be permitted where it is appropriate to do so. RCVS Council will review this position on an ongoing basis and in any event, no later than 30 June 2020.
